How to I get a Library Card?

Library cards are available free of charge to Ohio residents. To get a library card, you must apply in person for a with photo identification and proof of your current address.  For individuals 17 years or younger, a parent or Guardian must sign the application form also. Please note that parents/guardians are responsible for their child’s use of all library materials.

Borrowing Procedures

Your library card must be presented each time items are borrowed/checked out or to use the public computers.

Overdue or Lost Material

While we do not charge late fines for overdue items, patrons are responsible for charges related to lost or damaged  items.  Lost or damage charges will depend on the item's value. Failure to pay fees for lost or damaged items may cause the cancellation of your library card.

How do I check out or reserve a book or other item?

You may visit the library during open hours to check out items we have on site, using your library card.  You may also reserve an item for pick up through our state-wide online library catalog.

You can browse the online library catalog for books, DVDs, CDs and more.  By typing in the author, title, subject or  keyword of the item you need, you will access a database containing millions of records from other libraries in the Preble County area and throughout the state. After you click "Reserve," you can enter your library card number and PIN to log in and then specify our library as your pickup location. We receive these items on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and we will call to let you know when your item is available for pick up.

If you need assistance locating or reserving an item, we are happy to help.  Please contact us by email, in person or by calling us at 937-787-3502.

Wait List for Items

If an item you are looking for is already checked out, you may place a "hold" for the item and ask to have it sent to the library of your choice when it available again. You will be placed on a waiting list for the item and notified by telephone when the item becomes available.

How many items can I check out at once?

Borrowing limits differ depending on the type of material (i.e., books, movies, audio items).  Please check with us for limits.

Where can I return materials I have checked out?

Books, DVDs and CDs may be returned to our library during open hours or to our drop box after hours.

What are the loan periods for items?

The borrowing times include:
  • Books and Magazines - 3 weeks
  • DVDs - 7 days

Renewing an item
